The Challenge
Digital Transformation & Modernization of hi-fi.com.pl
The primary challenge was modernizing one of Poland’s most recognized audio portals. The platform required a transition from an outdated Joomla architecture to a flexible WordPress system, while preserving a massive archive of legacy content and introducing regular digital editions.
Technical Challenges:
- Data Migration: Securely transferring thousands of articles and media assets from Joomla CMS to WordPress while preserving the underlying data structure.
- Content Display Optimization: Developing a custom mechanism for smart content curation and article ordering, moving beyond standard chronological sorting.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Ensuring stable server performance and reliable email management under heavy traffic conditions.
- Monetization Control: Replacing a rigid, off-the-shelf ad system with a solution tailored to the editorial and commercial needs of a niche publication.
The Process
Migration Coordination & Project Management
I managed the collaboration with an external software house, ensuring the development and data migration processes aligned perfectly with project specifications. I was actively involved in refining the UI/UX, ensuring the new design was modern yet highly intuitive for the magazine’s long-time readers.
Custom Solutions & Development
Rather than patching the existing setup, I designed and built a suite of proprietary solutions that gave the editorial and commercial teams capabilities the standard WordPress ecosystem simply doesn’t offer out of the box.
- Custom Article Scheduling & Queuing Plugin: The flagship custom development. Editors can now schedule exactly when and in what order articles appear in the Featured section, either manually or on a time-triggered basis. This replaced a rigid chronological feed with full editorial control, critical for a publication that coordinates content with product launches and advertiser campaigns.
- Advanced Ad Management System: A dedicated solution for managing display advertising across the site, giving the team granular control over placement, timing, and rotation of commercial content, without relying on generic third-party plugins that compromise performance.
- Cloudflare CDN Integration: The site was moved behind Cloudflare’s network, significantly reducing server load, improving global load times, and adding an additional layer of DDoS protection. This proved essential for a publication that experiences traffic spikes during major audio industry premieres.
Operations & Digital Expansion
I streamlined the publishing workflow for the digital edition of the magazine, unlocking new channels for audience growth. On a daily basis, I manage the engine of the project: server administration, WordPress security, social media automation, and seamless communication workflows.
